Election Reform in Florida--twice in the last 10 years
As I was searching for articles last night to read about Election Reform I discovered that Florida's legislature passed an election reform bill (and Jeb Bush signed into law) in 2001 after the 2000 election fiasco. I haven't had the chance to read it yet but it can be found here. I'm excited about comparing the two pieces of legislation as well as the federal act Help America Vote Act of 2002. Stay tuned for an updated blog where I compare and contrast these three pieces of legislation. Until then, ponder this quote "The future of the republic is in the hands of the American voter." Dwight D. Eisenhower

Hi Steph,
ReplyDeleteWhat have you seen so far in your perusal of the newspaper articles on the three pieces of legislation? Are there any patterns or trends in the public response and if so, what is the major issue?
Just wondering how the people may have impacted the legislation.

HI Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteDuring the 2008 presidential election I was part of the evaluation team for Dr. Berson's civic engagement program in hillsborough county. We were able to publish a paper on the topic.
Im copying the url for it here for you to see if it is something that may be of interest to you. Id be happy to speak to you about the grant/evaluation findings etc.

Hi Aarti,
ReplyDeleteI would love to talk to you about the results of this project at some point. Thanks for the article. It looks very interesting. My goal is to include media literacy, civic education or engagement, and youth in my dissertation so any resources are welcome. :)
